Last week Year 5 and 6 students put on an outstanding performance of a musical comedy Shakespeare Rocks by Steve Titford. The play takes a light hearted look at William Shakespeare’s life. The two classes rehearsed for four weeks before presenting to the whole school and their parents and families.

Every student in Years 5 & 6 played at least one role. The play featured William Shakespeare (played by Aimar, Y6), his wife Anne (played by Ana.E. Y6), his family (played by Nicolás, Inés, Ester), his assistant (played by Mercedes), the characters from Mac…shhh (played by Esther, Inés, Paula, Cristina, Omar, Fernando, and others), Romeo and Juliet (played  by Koldo & Leyre), Al and Aubrey (played by Elena & Aitana).

The students performed extremely well and the singing and dancing was exceptional. The songs, among them “Don’t mention mac”,  “Romeos and Juliets”,  “All the world’s a stage”, “To be or not to be”, sounded amazing and the audience were thoroughly entertained for one hour. At the end, the applause was thunderous and the comments afterwards were highly complimentary.

Both classes worked diligently preparing for the play and painting the scenery. The actors had spent days working on making their props and costumes. Most students have recognized that even though it was a lot of work, they exceeded their objectives. They discovered their performing abilities, learnt how to work as a team, and discovered new facts about the great writer William Shakespeare. Well done, Year 5 and 6!
